First trained up and started using CAD in the 1980s when my employer installed huge Intergraph Workstations in the design department of the very large steelmaking company I worked for. Prior to that it was all drawing boards in the whole department. As time marched on we migrated to MicroStation and we eventually removed all drawing boards bar a few and were also using AutoCAD. All together I spent 40 Years before retirement on these forms of CAD systems. So I am very familiar with Computer Aided Design and the design environment as a fully certified chartered mechanical design engineer.
Since retirement I have been using ProgeCAD as it was affordable to me a retired non-earner and has enabled me to carry our building and site design work for non profit and unpaid work exclusively for registered charities. I have a lot of time for the developers of ProgeCAD ( which is an Intellicad Consortium based product which ProgeCAD co founded). I used IntelliCAD in the early days of its birth whilst I was still employed so I was familiar with it back in the 1990’s. In my experience of using it almost exclusively in the last 5 years since retirement I have found ProgeCAD to be a very professional piece of kit and it continues to improve with each update.
Its support is excellent and whilst it is all message based rather than being obtained by phone calls to developers, I have always been given very professional and effective help. Some of the suggestions made for additional functions have also been listened to and adopted in subsequent updates to the program. I am more than satisfied with this CAD system and believe it’s truly a serious contender to the likes of AutoDesk and MicroStation even though not as broad in its scope. It does all I need it to do with ease and I would recommend it to anyone serious about CAD design work.
